Puerto Rican superstar Myke Towers is stepping into his power with the release of his highly anticipated album ‘La Pantera Negra,’ dropping Friday, August 23, 2024. The release comes alongside the announcement of an ambitious 18-city North American arena tour, marking a significant milestone in the artist’s ever-ascending career.
“First of all, I feel like I’m a superhero, whenever I’m performing or in the studio. When it’s time to do what I do, it’s like putting on the suit,” Towers explained in a recent interview, referring to the album’s black panther-inspired theme. This superhero mentality seems fitting for an artist who has barely taken a break since his Latin Grammy-nominated ‘LYKE MIKE’ in 2021.
Topping the Charts
The new album’s lead single “Adivino,” featuring Bad Bunny, has already made waves, debuting at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart and marking Towers’ highest-charting single to date. The collaboration showcases both artists at their peak, with Bad Bunny delivering notably personal verses that sparked widespread fan speculation about his personal life.
“When he listened to that one, he said, ‘You know exactly why you showed me that first. I’ll take that song,'” Towers revealed. “And I think he wrote with the heart because he’s saying facts, talking to a girl he’s got on his mind.”
The 20-track album features an impressive roster of collaborators, including Peso Pluma, Jay Wheeler, Omar Montes, and rising star Yovngchimi. Towers also revealed an unexpected studio session with producer Benny Blanco that yielded three tracks for the album. “His vibe is crazy — whenever I’m around him, he’s like laughing [all] around,” Towers shared about working with Blanco.
Myke Towers Focuses On His Roots
The album showcases Towers’ versatility, featuring everything from reggaetón beats to tracks like “En el Mar,” which blends reggae roots with what Towers describes as a “Bob Marley flow.” This diversity in sound has become a hallmark of his artistry. “I don’t like to do anything that sounds the same,” Towers explained. “I feel like I have all these different sides of me that I want to show.”
To support the album, Towers will embark on his “La Pantera Negra Tour” starting October 2 in Fairfax, VA. The arena tour, produced by Live Nation, will visit major cities including Brooklyn, Houston, Miami, and Toronto, before concluding in Inglewood, CA, on November 3. The tour represents a significant upgrade to larger venues, allowing more fans to experience what Live Nation promises will be a “newly produced and one-of-a-kind live experience.”
The tour announcement comes during what has already been a landmark year for Towers. Beyond his musical success, he made his Major League Baseball debut in May, starring in the “El Béisbol es Otra Cosa” campaign alongside comedian Marcello Hernández. He’s also received four nominations for the 2024 Latin American Music Awards, including Song of the Year and Global Latin Song of the Year.
As Towers prepares to release ‘La Pantera Negra,’ he remains focused on legacy-building while maintaining his trademark humility. “I treat every day as another day at the office, whether that is a video shoot, award show, studio session, or show,” he reflected in a recent interview. “I keep a very humble attitude towards my success—while I do recognize it and appreciate it, at the end of the day, I have to thank my fans for helping me get that recognition.”
